Based on the book, The Moccasin Speaks, Under the Painted Sky tells the story of the German family who traveled west and were attacked in September 1874 on the western plains of Kansas. What followed was a search for the girl captives that involved the military and the struggles of the Southern Cheyenne.
This film introduces us to the German family as well as the Southern Cheyenne people who were attacked and harassed repeatedly in the period leading up to 1874 on the plains. In many ways, both groups involved in this story were stuck in a struggle not of their own choosing and fought to stay alive and hopefully live in the west.
Featuring the talents of Mo Brings Plenty, Buck Taylor, Mary McDonough, Darby Hinton, Wyatt McCrea and RW Hampton. This film is directed by Ken Spurgeon and produced by New Albany Films in association with Smoky Hill River Productions.
Anticipated release - Fall 2026
